In the resolution of 2018, I told people to write more about the communities they want to connect than to do list or tasks. If you have any entrepreneurial dream then first connect with entrepreneurs. This will positively affect your thinking, thoughts and your work. If you are not spending your time with people who are on the same mission as you, then you will miss the target. Not getting success in achieving your dream or startups, then the chances are high that you are in the wrong circle. And the thing is you need to go away from these people to get your dream come true. Otherwise, live in the same community but don’t complain.
Community affects the three main things of your life Thinking, profession and words.
Thinking:
When I joined my first company after completing engineering, I was full of excitement and enthusiasm. Starting two months were of learning and positivity in the office. People around me always appreciate boss and company culture. They all had the vision to work longer for the company. I also convinced that I am here for long term. After two months my floor was changed. Same company but new people. What was new is their thoughts and thinking. They always discuss what is wrong with the company and how much they hate its policies. Earlier this talk was irritating for me, but with the time I started involving in their conversation. My excitement of two months lost in the negative thinking and I left the company without any prior notice.
After this experience, I understand that how your community affects your thinking. Keep yourself away from people who have negative aspects towards life.
There is a beautiful line written by Alphonse Karr a journalist, and novelist:
We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorns have roses.
Profession:
Earlier, son of an engineer became an engineer, and son of doctor became a doctor.
Now, the son of a barber becomes an engineer. Its credit goes to urbanization. When people move from one place to another place, they ultimately move from one community to another and then changes happen. Do you have an entrepreneurial dream, then you need to walk away from people who are looking for job security or vice versa.
Mark Twain has rightly said:
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambition. Small people always do that, but the great make you feel that you, too, can become great.”
Words or language:
When you surround yourself with people who always criticize then soon, you will start doing the same. And if you live with cheerful people then you always appreciate others. Your surrounding influences your words and language. You can see the example of this in a nation like India birthplace of four communities; Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, have 22 different languages. If you were born in Punjab, then you can understand Punjabi and can speak it well. A person from Gujrat can easily understand Gujarati. In the same way, people surrounded by negative people always talk negative. They use abusive words. If you want to get rid of offensive language then first moves out from the community where these kind of language is used.
Here is the advice of Michelle Obama
I always tell young girls, surround yourself with goodness. I learned early on how to get the haters out of my life.
How can you use social media for inspiration and for making your work life productive?
I live in a town Dhampur, 180 km far from New Delhi and here it was typical for me to find out the communities of writers, bloggers, entrepreneurs and positive groups. So I checked out on social media and connected there with them. Social media like Facebook has a lot of inspiring communities. If you are not able to find out your type of community in your city, then move on to social media. But there are lots of social media groups which are misguiding people. And most of these groups or pages are in the name of a political party, news and the name of religion.
What you read or watch also influence your life. So for more productive time take a break from those negative news, communities, pages and groups. Otherwise be ready for negative impact on your life.
2 years back I don’t like Facebook as much as I love it today. Many people think that social media is a lethal weapon for society. So let me break your taboo by this quote,
“It is not about the exploitation of technology but services to the community.”
